Velferden Ny-Ålesund offers sevral rental boats to all members of the Velferden. Drivers need to have a boat driving license if they are born after 1.1.1980. Damages on the boat have to be covered by the driver). You are traveling on your own risk, Velferden does not have an insurance for driver or passengers on the boats.
Keep in mind
- Reservation of boats is made by writing your full name on the reservation list (on the white board in the service building)
- Velferden has three small boats, Trond Jr, Pekailln and Kaasbøll and one big boat, Moffen.
- Check the boat for damages and that it has a full tank before leaving. Consider bringing extra fuel for longer trips.
- Report damages and problems to the boat committee
- Fill the tank after your trip and leave the boat tidy
- Please pay the same day as you come back from your trip.
- even if you are legally allowed to drive a boat make sure you can drive a boat before heading out in the waves. If in doubt, ask the committee.
- Always take the weather and tide into account. Check the forcast.
- Check the tides and make sure your boat don’t get stranded over night.
- There are several bird sanctuaries in Kongsfjorden. You should know about theese before you go out with a boat. Check TopoSvalbard for details.
Special Conditions
- Some of the cabins require some local knowledge when approaching by boat. You should confere with a local hero before wisiting theese places.

Camp Heaven – Anchor might not attach properly
Camp Zoe – Exposed to northern winds
Storholmen – Shallow and large rocks
Haugenhytta – Shallow
Derten – Exposed to western winds
Jutta – Don’t let the boat smash into the rocks
