About

Antons Verk is a cabin at Brandal, not far from the NMAs new observatory, about 4 km from town. You can follow the road, it takes you almost all the way up to the cabin.

The cabin was originally situated at Ceciliesynken, close to Scheteligfjellet, where they did some mining operation testing in ’48-’49. It was used as a resting shelter for people working at the facilities. in ’65 the cabin was moved to Brandal by the whatchmen Martin Tollefsen and Johan Ødegaard. They used the cabin for hunting, and ledgends has it that they kept a polar bear cub here, damn. The cabin was not maintained until Anton Olsen, a machine worker for Kings Bay, did a lot of work in ’92. No one knows where the name ‘Antons Verk’ comes from.
